The Challenge

Create a logo animation that revives the CSO brand while still staying true to their brand positioning

The Charlotte Symphony Orchestra needed a animation to reveal their new logo and conductor. Initially they didn't have a direction of how they wanted this animation to look so it was 3 weeks of iterations until we got closer to what they were hoping for. Ultimately, they wanted it to be engaging yet still sophisticated. I was provided with the audio file prior to starting and took the time to listen to it multiple times to note what it made me feel when I listened to it and what I saw in my mind when listening.

Our Solution

Think about what we'd want the audience to feel when they experience this reveal

Think about what we'd want the audience to feel when they experience this reveal

When going through the iterations of the animations, I sought inspiration from multiple examples and continued to ask myself how did I want the audience to feel when they experienced this reveal for the first time. The more variations I created the more adventurous I got with how I animated the entrance of the logo. This project definitely taught me the importance of not being too married to one idea.

The Outcome

Take the audience for a ride

Take the audience for a ride

The final iteration was inspired by simulation rollercoasters. I wanted the audience to experience the logo up close and personal without knowing what it would look like till the end. This felt like a fun, theatrical, yet sophisticated way to give the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra what they were looking for. The response from the marketing team, new conductor, and CSO supporters was overwhelmingly positive and I couldn't be more grateful for the experience.
